Walt and Fair for Farmers

We are sorry that Walt Cavendish has decided to leave the Fair For Farmers campaign.

Walt has been a fantastic advocate. He’s a straight-talking and forceful personality and has made a real difference. We have enjoyed working with him and are glad that he is going to continue his work to try to push to see the same standards applied to food products we import as apply to our own farms.

The Fair For Farmers campaign will continue its work on this important issue. We are asking for one thing alone: that the animal welfare standards that our farmers abide by are fairly applied to anyone who wants to sell products in this country. It’s a common-sense policy which is fair for farmers; fair to consumers who expect the products in shops to meet New Zealand’s welfare standards; and good for farmed animal welfare.

From the start, the Fair For Farmers campaign has been transparent that we are a coalition of both farmers and people with an animal welfare background. We believe our campaign is something everyone can agree on, and that we should work together where we can.

To do that effectively, transparency and trust is vital. We warmly invite any members who have any questions following Walt’s departure to get in touch and we’d be happy to talk through any concerns.
