New Curia Market Research polling from Animal Policy International shows nearly eight in ten New Zealand farmers want imports required to meet New Zealand's welfare standards. The wider public has been saying the same for years, with over 80% support consistently shown by Horizon Research.
To put it in perspective: more farmers agree on this (79%) than Kiwis agree on whether mince belongs on toast (78%)*.
This is a level of cross-spectrum agreement that turns up in very few policy areas. With an election ahead, every party will say they back Kiwi farmers - here's a clear test of who actually means it.
